Pre-Climb Checklist
The Pre-Climb Checklist is an essential step in identifying and controlling potential hazards. Prior to each climb, it is important to review any safety hazard that may need to be mitigated. A “Pre-Climb Checklist” includes but is not limited to:
- Verify structural analysis is current.
- Inspect the work environment for any unsafe conditions.
- Report unsafe conditions to the Site Supervisor and consult on the next steps.
- Apply controls to mitigate hazards.
- Follow all safety regulations, including your employer’s.
- Evaluate potential environmental and other site related hazards/exposures.
- Determine the best climbing path on the structure that minimizes hazards.
- Periodically inspect the site as work progresses; adjust work practices and procedures as necessary.
- Inspect all fall protection, rigging and tools as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
Consult your employer about any additional policies or procedures that exist.
